INTERESTING FACT

Lion And Tiger = Liger

What happens when a male lion and a female tiger breed? A Liger - the largest of all felines. A liger looks like a giant lion with diffused stripes and some male ligers grow sparse manes. These massive creatures are 10 feet long on average and weigh about 700 lb (320kg). Liger love swimming - trait common to tigers but lacking in lions. Ligers have been bred in captivity, deliberately and accidentally, since shortly before World War II. The largest liger alive today is appropriately named Hercules and lives in Jungle Island in Miami.

Wow. Those animals are just so cute! They seem really friendly too. Wish there was a way you could get up close and pat them!

they only seem friendly because they have been hand reared. Try go pet one in the wild see what will happen lol :)

In the comments I have seen a lot of misconceptions about ligers. For example ligers can not reproduce. Female ligers have reproduced already to give birth to ti Liger, or li-ligers. The male ligers have a testosterone level satisfactory for mating with females, however, none of the male ligers have reproduced yet. Ligers live as long as lions and tigers. Shasta the liger lived for more than 24 years. This age is sufficient enough.

One time there was this dude, he was old time plains indian, Native American. He was on a buffalo hunt and shot a buffalo. When he went up to skin and pack the meat, he began to cut it open at it's stomach. When he did an old withered lady was inside it. And she was.............. ALIVE!
BANG!

So next time you wanna get a drink of OJ in the middle of the night you better put on those tube socks.

Does anyone know off the top the details of why they can't mate and continue their species Line? I'm curious why a lion and tiger can have a kid together but, that their offspring is unable to breed with a like family's offspring. specifically

Lions and tigers can breed because they are still from the same species and have enough DNA in common to be able to mate successfully, ligers cant mate because since tigers and lions are different enough that if they mate together there offspring will most likely be infertile

Whoa... That thing is so F@%king weird. I'm only wondering one thing-- How did the tiger and lion mate without trying to kill each other? Were they sedated?

Unfortunately though Ligers cannot produce offspring of their own, and therefore cannot progress as an individual species, Unless of course a further mutation happens which allows them to reproduce.
