We all know of baseball, football, and basketball, but the world of sports extends to all kinds of activities that you may never have heard of. While current circumstances may limit what you can do outside, you may still be curious to learn about some alternative sports that people participate in. These are a few unconventional sports that you should know.

Quidditch

Anyone who’s read the Harry Potter books or watched the films has probably pictured what it must be like to engage in an exciting Quidditch match. Although we can’t soar around in the air, students at Middlebury College in Vermont were able to adapt the game for real life beginning in 2005. Since then, quidditch (spelled with a lowercase q to differentiate from the fictional game) has grown to include many universities in the US and even in other countries. Many of the familiar markings of the sport from the Harry Potter universe are present, such as the broomsticks, hoop goals, and different types of balls. With its unique origin, this is definitely a sport worth checking out.

Disc Golf

As opposed to quidditch, Disc golf is a slower-paced sport. As you might guess from its name, the rules are similar to that of traditional golf. The major difference comes from the fact that players toss discs that are similar to frisbees instead of hitting golf balls and aim to land them in nets instead of holes. The nets are usually made of chains and stand on stationary metal poles. Disc golf is great for those who enjoy honing their precision-based skills. The fact that disc golf usually takes place in attractive park settings is an added bonus, too.

Drone Racing

Drones are becoming more sophisticated as time goes on, and now there are people who race them. An organization called the Drone Racing League has set up courses for skilled professional drone pilots to compete in and broadcasts the races on the internet. Drone racing pilots use special headgear to see from their drones’ perspectives as they fly them. All the while, they must evade obstacles and outpace other racers. This unconventional sport that you should know is one that you can get involved in today on your own. By buying and customizing a drone and learning the tricks for flying racing drones online, you can build your skillset, and perhaps one day you can participate in drone races yourself.
