A Simple Guide to LED Bulb Brightness and Color Ratings

You can find LED bulbs in many shapes, sizes, and colors. Whether it’s at your home, business, or car, there’s an LED that can fit your needs. But because there are all these options, it can be difficult to choose the right one.

When it comes to choosing the right LED bulbs, there are a few things you need to take into account. In this simple guide, we’ll go over led bulb brightness and color ratings so that you can decide which bulbs are right for you.

LED Bulb Brightness

LED bulbs are available in different brightness levels, measured in lumens. The number of lumens a bulb emits will determine how bright it is. For example, a standard 60-watt incandescent bulb emits about 800 lumens, while a 12-watt LED bulb emits about the same amount of light.

Like wattage, the higher the number of lumens, the brighter the light will be. However, you should note that lumens measure light output, not energy efficiency. So just because a bulb has a higher lumen rating doesn’t mean it’s more energy-efficient than one with a lower rating.

LED Bulb Color

In addition to brightness, you also want to consider an LED bulb’s color. The hue of an LED light is on the Kelvin scale, with lower numbers corresponding to warmer (yellow and orange) tones and higher numbers corresponding to cooler (blue) tones.

For example, a standard incandescent lightbulb has a color temperature of around 2700K. This temperature results in warm light, and people often use it in living rooms and bedrooms because it’s softer and less harsh on the eyes than cool white light. On the other hand, LEDs with color temperatures of 4000K or higher are typical in kitchens and bathrooms because they provide brighter light for tasks like cooking or applying makeup.

Different Uses for LEDs

Now that you know more about LED brightness and color, you can start narrowing down which type of LED is right for you. Finding places to use LEDs in your house is simple. You can use them as task lighting in your kitchen or office, or you can use them to add a soft, warm ambiance to your living room or bedroom.

Many types of LED lights can be outdoors. Floodlights and security lights are great for illuminating a home’s or business building’s exterior. And because they’re so durable, LEDs are also great for signs. There are many different types of LED signs that you can use for indoor and outdoor advertising.

When shopping for LED bulbs, you should consider both brightness and color. Higher numbers correspond to brighter, cooler light, while lower numbers correspond to dimmer, warmer light.

Choose the right combination of brightness and color based on the room where the bulbs will be. You’ll be able to create the perfect atmosphere in any space with the help of LEDs.
