What is Telegram?

Telegram is a messaging app for sending messages for free using mobile data or wifi. It works in much the same way that WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger do. You can send messages, photos, videos, stickers and audio as well as other types of files.

Telegram is among the best messaging services that you’ll find anywhere in the world right now, and yet a lot of people still don’t know about all the amazing benefits that this app has to offer. So let’s take a look at some of the features of this unique app that make it so special.

Why You Should Consider Using Telegram

When you send a message on Telegram, you’ll see double ticks next to it to show you that the message has been received. This app also allows you to share locations and documents.

With Telegram, you can add 10,000 contacts to each group, which is great for seamlessly moving your conversations from your smartphone to your tablet or even your desktop. You can send files of up to 1.5GB to each of your contacts. This is significantly more than WhatsApps file limit of just 16MB.

Furthermore, Telegram gives you the option of starting a new ‘Secret Chat’ which isn’t saved to the cloud. There’s even a feature that allows you to set a self-destruct time limit on those secret chats to ensure that they are gone within just a few seconds, minutes, hours, days, or weeks – depending on your preference. Although there are features that make Telegram an ideal app for safety and privacy, the daily use of any platform for communication should still require the user to understand what they’re providing to the app.

How to Get Started With Telegram

Getting started using this app is extremely easy. All you have to do is follow the steps outlined below and you’ll be sending messages and chatting in no time.

Step #1: Install the Telegram application.

Step #2: Register your account. Here you will be prompted to type in your phone number. After doing so, you will immediately receive a text message from Telegram with a 4-digit code that you can use to verify that this is your real number.

Step #3: Enter the code into the Telegram app to continue.

Step #4: Add your user name and include a picture.

Step #5: If you want to, you can now grant the application permission to access your address book so the app can automatically search for friends who use Telegram within your contacts.

Step #6: You’re now ready to send invites to friends to join a chat simply by tapping on their names.

The Bottom Line

If you want an online chatting or instant messaging app that prioritizes speed and security, then Telegram is a great alternative to some of the current popular options available on the market right now.
