Interesting Facts About the Caribbean Islands

Whether you’ve been to the Caribbean or not, there are many things you most likely don’t know about the region. This group of islands is one of the most unique areas in the world, but it’s very easy to get lost in the sun, sand, and crystal blue waters. There Are Only Two Seasons

Although you might think the entire globe experiences several different seasons each year, the Caribbean has only two seasons: wet and dry. The wet season is from May through November, and the dry season is from December through April. With that in mind, there are still several good weather days during the wet season, but it’s more likely to rain.

English Is Widely Spoken

Believe it or not, English is the primary language for several Caribbean islands because of the British influence. For instance, people in Belize, the Virgin Islands, and Jamaica speak English primarily. People sometimes refer to Barbados as the region’s own “little England.”

Barbados Is the Birthplace of Rum

Although Cuba is often associated with rum, Barbados is actually rum’s birthplace. Mount Gay Distillery (1703) produced the oldest rum in the world and still makes incredible rum today. You can even tour the distillery in Mount Gay, Barbados, and sample the oldest rum ever. Due to its close proximity to the United States and the unbeatable tax benefits, there are more businesses than people in the Cayman Islands. In fact, the population is over 67,000 people, but there are more than 117,000 businesses in the Cayman Islands.
